Create access point for ds?

My computer is hooked up to the internet by Ethernet, and i have an unused wifi card in it thats not being used. I used to be able to create an AD HOC connection to give my laptop internet access this way, but when i try it with my ds it doesnt work. Is there a way to make this wrok?
