How to fix windows recovery error? Vista?

Well basically this morning I went on my laptop and on firefox and it said update I cancelled it because I was not in the mood to wait, then my pc just froze and I waited I couldn't even move the cursor so I turned it off and then I switch it back on, and it says Windows Recovery Error and it gives me 2 options the first one doesn't even work and the second one just restarts my pc I tried the F keys and nothing works please help this is my mums pc!
